We tried out 15 baby toothbrushes with actual kiddos and their parents to find out what was best. Which has the softest bristles? Is easiest to hold? What if you want an electric toothbrush. Here are the winners. FYI: We've been reviewing and rating baby gear since 1994. We don't take money or freebies from brands we review—that keeps our work independent! Best Baby Toothbrush and Toothpaste: AllSett Health Baby Toothbrush

After researching, reviewing and testing 15 baby toothbrushes, we pick the AllSett Health Baby Toothbrush as the Best Baby Toothbrush.

We liked the soft bristles, a grippy ergonomic handle, and comes in cool colors. Also good: visual marking on the bristles to show parents how much toothpaste to use (only about the size of a grain of rice for 6-12 month olds).

Another plus: this 6-pack is affordable. Our testers were happy overall with the brush although some complained the handle was too big for tiny hands and wished the bristles were a bit softer.

Other baby toothbrushes we tested didn’t last as long or lacked soft bristles. We also thought gimmicky toothbrushes shaped like bananas or sharks were nice but too expensive—often 30% more than our top pick. There’s no reason to waste money on this, especially since toothbrushes need to be replaced every three months.

Best Soft Baby Toothbrush

Elephant shape is cute
Our kid testers loved this toothbrush, with its clever design that keeps it correctly positioned. Caveat: bristles may fall out after longer use.

Also Great: Dr. Brown’s Infant-to-Toddler Toothbrush

Dr. Brown, most famous for their baby bottles, also makes excellent toothbrushes. Their Infant-to-Toddler brush has a soft, flexible handle shaped like an elephant with an elongated trunk. The “ears” stick out to the side so your baby can’t shove the brush into her mouth too far.

You have a couple options with Dr. Brown’s: you can buy the brush with Dr. Brown’s Toothpaste or on its own.

One caveat: a few of our testers complained the toothbrush’s bristles fell out, a potential hazard to your baby. Others thought the bristles weren’t soft enough.

However, most of our testers were pleased with Dr. Brown’s baby toothbrush brush overall—so it earns our recommendation.

Best Electric Baby Toothbrush: Oral-B Pro-Health Jr. Battery Powered Kid’s Toothbrush

Want an electric toothbrush? Yes, you can use an electric toothbrush—but only for toddlers over two years of age.

In our tests, the Oral-B Kids Battery Powered Toothbrushes performed the best. As you’d guess, you can choose from just about any character for these toothbrushes . . . the Frozen version was particularly popular with our kid testers!

One nice feature: the head spins, which is excellent for cleaning.

While most folks like this toothbrush, a few dissenters said the batteries die too quickly.
