Best Baby Food Pouches: Plum Organics Stage 2

After tasting several brands of organic baby food, we think Plum Organics is tops.

Plum Organics was one of the first baby food companies to come out in pouches, which have since become all the rage. Plum Organics’ fans came for the easy-to-pack pouches (no glass jars that can shatter), but stayed for the quality, organic baby food. JUST Fruit and JUST Veggies  are made without additives—just fruit and veggies.

Plum Organics’ Second Blends include interesting combinations like blueberry, pear and purple carrot. Stage 3 Meals and  Mighty 4 Blends are complete meals in a pouch with “fruits, veggies, protein and grains.” Prices vary often according to how many packs you buy. Some veggie options can be more expensive than fruit options.

Parents tell us they like the JUST Fruit and Second Blends best. By the time kids are ready for Stage 3 and Mighty 4, they should really be eating what you’re eating (not baby food). FYI: Plum Organics has expanded its offerings to include snack items and formula.

Here’s more about why we picked Plum Organics as a top choice in organic baby food:

What We Liked

• Pouches are resealable. And pouches are more likely to be accepted at day care versus glass jars.

• Non GMO fruits and veggies.

• Great for travel.

What Needs Work

• Check those expiration dates! Organic food typically doesn’t last as long as conventional baby foods—so watch expiration dates closely.

• Babies should not eat directly from the pouch. This is true for all baby food pouches, of course. It’s important for kids to learn how to use utensils!

If you’d like to try something different when it comes to organic baby food, we suggest giving Happy Baby a shot. Our testers thought it tasted good, but the somewhat higher price (compared to other organic choices) dropped it to runner-up status in our ranking. Here’s more:

What Needs Work

Why Trust Us

We’ve been rating and reviewing baby food since 1994—yes, when our own kids were in high chairs. Of course, our reviews are more than just our own opinion about which baby applesauce is best. We also evaluate consumer feedback from our readers and our message boards.

Here’s another key point: we don’t take money from the brands we review. No free samples, no sponsors, no “partnerships.” Baby Bargains is your independent and unbiased source for expert reviews.
