What is the best fogger? A fogger can be used for cleaning or to spray fungicides, herbicides and insecticides. In a nutshell, these foggers atomize a liquid. To find the best, we interviewed contractors and pest control specialists for their recommendations. Then we did eight hours of additional research, comparing ease of use and overall quality. Here are our recommendations.

Best Outdoor Portable Fogger: Ryobi ONE+ 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Fogger/Mister

Foggers come in two basic types: portable, battery operated models and corded models that are less portable.

And some can be used indoors or outside, while some models are just for use outside.

After talking with pest control specialists and contractors who use foggers for cleaning, we decided Ryobi’s ONE+ cordless fogger/mister is best for outdoor use . . . especially if you aren’t near an outlet.

Here’s more:

What We Liked

• Easy to use.

• Compact size with half gallon tank

• Can spray particles up to 15 feet.

• Covers about 1000 square feet of space in one minute.

• One battery charge lasts for 10,000 feet of usage.

• Lightweight at 7.2 lbs.

What Needs Work

• Noisy.

• Can only be used outside.

• More of a spray than a fog.

Best Indoor/Outdoor Fogger

Excellent for lawn care or cleaning
The powerful motor is impressive, with the ability to spray fog up to 20 feet. Yes, it must be plugged in, but it can be worn as a backpack. 3 gallon tank.

Best Indoor/Outdoor Fogger: SuperHandy Fogger Machine

This heavy-duty commercial-style fogger has a powerful 1200 watt motor. Cleaning contractors we interviewed said it is excellent at spraying up to 20 feet and easy to use. Here’s more:

What We Liked

Can wear it as a backpack.

• 3 gallon tank.

• Extended coil hose.

• Can spray 5 to 6.5 feet vertically

• Good for pesticide application or cleaning.

• Also can be used for evaporative cooling to add humidity to a plant or factory.

• Atomizer-type fogger.

• Large mouth on tank makes it easy to fill.

• Lightweight at 7.7 lbs.

What Needs Work

• Must be plugged in.

• Noisy.

• Backpack uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time.

Best Industrial Grade Fogger

5 lb. weight = easy to carry
We liked the adjustable settings of this fogger—you can change from fine (unpressurized) to heavy (pressurized) mist. Up to 14 gallons per hour is fantastic.

Best Industrial Grade Fogger: Hudson 99598 Fog Electric Atomizer Sprayer

After interviewing contractors who use foggers for lawn care, we realized there is a trade-off when it comes to foggers: the larger the tank, the more you can spray . . . but the downside is weight.

The Hudson 99598 fogger has a 2 gallon tank. That’s a good compromise between the very small half-gallon Ryobi recommended earlier and other models with 3 gallon tanks. The problem with the 3 gallon foggers is what happens when you fill that three gallon tank—talk about back strain!

What We Liked

• Efficient and simple to use.

• 840 watt motor can shoot fog up to 13. 5 feet.

• Adjustable settings: fine (unpressurized) setting can spray 1.5 to 3.5 gallons per hour. The heavy (pressurized) setting can do 6 to 14 gallons per hour.

What Needs Work

• Hard to completely fill the tank.

• Must be plugged into 110 volt A/C power.

• Carry strap isn’t very comfortable for long-term use.

• More mist than fog (although this depends on the settings).
