Sometimes called "fandaliers," these combination ceiling fans and chandeliers are all the rage. To find the best bets, we asked our parent readers for their favorites. Which were easiest to install? Quietest operation? Here are the ones we recommend.

FYI: We've been reviewing and rating products for the home and families since 1994. To keep things independent, we don't take money or freebies from brands we review! Our work is 100% reader-supported!

Best Retractable Fan: Modern Fandelier Crystal Retractable Ceiling Fans

This reader favorite combines two popular trends: ceiling fans with retractable blades AND crystal chandelier decor.

Besides the look, we loved how quiet this model is—and when the blades retract, it strikes a modern pose.

What We Liked

• Very quiet.

• Blades retract when fan isn’t in use.

• Three speeds.

• Sleep timer for 1, 2, 4 or 8 hours.

• Stepless dimmable light.

• Three color levels with 36 watt LED lights.

• Beautiful look.

What Needs Work

• Installation instructions could be better.

• Fan motor can’t be reversed. That’s true for most retractable ceiling fans, but a bummer if you want to use it in the winter to draw warmer air down from the ceiling.

• Three speeds.

• Chrome and crystal look is striking.

What Needs Work

• Takes a while to hang the bottom row of crystals, which must be hung individually!

• Requires assembly.

• 40 watt bulbs not included—it can be a challenge to find bulbs that don’t stick out.
