Best Short Camping High Chair

Easy on the wallet
Loved this low-profile, booster-style chair that is easy to fold and lightweight. Dishwasher-safe tray, but we wish the seat's nylon fabric was easier to clean. Weight limit: 37.6 lbs.

Best Short Camping High Chair: Summer Infant Pop and Sit Portable Booster

The best portable high chair for outdoor adventures like camping should have water resistant nylon fabric and feature a quick set up and fold.

We think Summer’s Pop and Sit portable booster is the best high chair for camping and picnics.

Here’s why:

What We Liked

• Easy to fold. We could quickly set up and fold this chair.

• Affordable and lightweight. Plus it has a travel bag.

• Dishwasher safe tray.

• Feet design provides stability. Tip overs are a major source of high chair injuries; we thought this portable high chair was well designed to be stable in our testing.

What Needs Work

• Harness attached to seat bite. Oddly, the harness for this seat is attached where the back of the seat meets the bottom—which makes it somewhat awkward to strap a child in.

• Buckle can be hard to unlock. We know this is a safety feature, but it shouldn’t be too hard!

• Nylon fabric can be hard to clean.

Best Medium Height Camping High Chair: ciao! baby Portable High Chair for Travel

This chair is the goldilocks of camping high chairs—taller than our first pick, but shorter than the tall chair. For most folks, that is a great height, so baby can see all the action.

What We Liked

• No assembly required.

• Easy to fold, lightweight.

• Includes carry bag.

• Tray is covered in clear vinyl.

• Five-point harness! That keeps baby from climbing out. In our opinion, this is preferred over chairs with three point harnesses.

What’s Needs Work

• Harder to put baby in and out. This seat cradles baby more than other seats—that’s nice, but it can be hard to get baby in or out of the chair as a result.

• Weight limit is only 35 lbs.

• Vinyl tray can slope down toward baby—where all the food will end up. Unlike other camping high chairs we tested, this chair has a soft vinyl tray. The tray has its fans and critics. On the plus side, it makes the chair lighter to carry. On the downside, the vinyl can slope down toward baby, so food ends up in her lap.

Best Tall Camping High Chair

Opens and folds easily
We liked this sturdy yet easy to fold high chair—yes, the fabric removes and is machine washable! Yeah! Cavet: we wish the safety harness was 5 points. Weight limit: 45 lbs.

Best Tall Camping High Chair: Summer Pop ‘n Sit SE Highchair

Shorter, booster-style high chairs are nice for camping, but taller high chairs like Summer’s Pop ‘n Sit are easier to use if you wish to feed baby while you sit at a table. This model is like a traditional high chair, yet folds up compact for travel.

What We Liked

Easy to fold—just like a camping chair!

• Lightweight.

• Easy to wash with a hose. And the fabric is machine washable, which is nice when you get back home.

• Dishwasher tray with cup holder.

• Storage pocket.

What Needs Work

• Wish the safety harness was five-point, not three. Why? It’s harder for an infant to climb out of a five-point harness. That’s more of an issue with a tall camping high chair like this, than shorter booster-style models, of course! Our advice:  always carefully supervise any child using a high chair with a three-point harness!

• Tray can be hard to remove.

• Not height adjustable. Yet, most camping high chairs don’t have this feature—it’s more common in stay-at-home high chair models.

Best Camping High Chair With Canopy

Longer use, up to 75 lbs.!
Loved this chair, which can convert from baby high chair to big kid camp chair. Easy to fold and transport. Lightweight! Weight limit: 75 lbs.

Best Camping High Chair With Canopy: Baby Delight Go with Me Chair

You’d think a sun canopy would be a standard feature for camping high chairs, but oddly, no. This model by Baby Delight is one of the few that has a canopy and meets our standards for quality and ease of use. Bonus: it can be used up to 75 lbs., much longer than other chairs we tested.

What We Liked

• Super easy fold. We also liked the carry bag.

• 5 point safety harness.

• Converts to big kid chair.

• Sun canopy!

What’s Needs Work

• Hard to attach tray.

• Tray slopes toward baby = food in lap!

• Pricey. But you do get longer term use from this chair, so that might be worth it.
