Finding the Best Passion Fruit . . . And A Recipe!

Let’s talk passion fruit!

Thanks to drinks from a famous coffee house chain that use passion fruit puree as a base, this fruit is having a moment. But passion fruit is more than just a cocktail or drink base—it is also used for baking, pastries and even as an ice cream topping.

Before we get to the winners of our passion fruit puree blind taste test, here is a dessert recipe for one of our personal favorites: Passion Fruit Mousse Cake.

Recipe: Passion Fruit Mousse Cake

  • 190 grams Passion Fruit Puree
  • 250 grams of cold heavy cream
  • 590 grams of condensed milk
  • Mini macaroon cookies
  • Preparation:

  1. Beat the heavy cream on medium speed until a creamy whipped cream is created.
  2. Add the condensed milk with Passion Fruit Puree in a container. To gradually integrate your whipped cream in a circular movement, mix with a spatula.
  3. Once everything is integrated, portion it into circular silicone molds and preferably refrigerate overnight.
  4. To serve it, unmold mousse and glue mini macaroon cookies while it’s cold; add more Passion Fruit Puree on top to decorate.
  5. Serve the mousse and enjoy

Great in salad dressing too
We loved the flavor of this puree—with just the right touch of sweetness (yes, it has 10% cane sugar). Made in France.

Best for Baking

Perfect for pancake topping
So delicious—this syrup is a bit thinner than other purees we tried, so it works well in drinks as well as cake recipes.

Best Budget-Friendly

Excellent for curd recipes
We liked this tasty syrup, which was sweeter than others we tried for this article. Very good for baked goods. Caveat: less pulp than other brands we researched.

How We Pick Products To Recommend

We often turn to our readers (3 million strong!) to find products to recommend. We ask our parent readers for their favorites and consider their real-world experiences in our recommendations.

When we test a product, we always purchase it with our own monies. We do not take free samples, as we believe that compromises our independence.

We also fact check manufacturer information with our own measurements. If a maker claims a product weighs X pounds, we will weigh it to make sure. If the battery life is supposed to be six hours, we will see how it stands up in the real world.

In some cases, we will do interviews with experts in the field to get additional feedback on products.

To get hands-on time with products, we regularly meet one-on-one with gear companies and even tour manufacturing facilities. (When we do this, we pay our own travel expenses).

Why Trust Us

We’ve been rating and reviewing products for the home and families since 1994. We do extensive research, evaluating products with an eye toward quality, ease of use and affordability.

We make our living from affiliate commissions, but we always recommend what we think are the best bets for our readers (not the ones that are the most expensive). We are always looking for products that offer the best bang for the buck.

Our independence is a key reason why we have been doing this so long. As we mentioned above, when we purchase a product for hands-on testing, we do so with our own money.

Here’s another key point: we don’t take money from the brands we review. No free samples, no sponsors, no “partnerships.” Our work is 100% reader-supported!
