Best Ice Cream Container

Last Updated: Sep 8, 2020 @ 10:35 am.  Got a brand new ice cream maker? Fantastic! Now, HOW do you store all that yummy ice cream you just made? We tested a dozen popular ice cream containers, comparing those with double-wall construction (to keep out freezer burn) to simple containers with silicone lids. Here are the ones we’d recommend!

FYI: We’ve been reviewing and rating products for the home, families and kids since 1994. We use our own money to test products—we don’t take money or freebies from brands we review. Our work is 100% reader-supported!

Best Long 1.5 Quart

StarPack Long Scoop Ice Cream Freezer Storage Containers Set of 2

Double wall design = no freezer burn Loved this container and its overall design that makes scooping easier. Easy to store in freezer, but hand wash only. One caveat: lid just sits on top, instead of snapping in place.

Best Long 1.5 Quart: StarPack Long Scoop Ice Cream Freezer Storage Container

After we reviewed the best ice cream maker machines, we realized we had a problem—what to do with all the ice cream we now can make? (First world problems, we know!).

So we launched on a quest to find the best ice cream container, purchasing several different designs and giving them a try out.

One winner: long, slim designs like StarPack’s Long Scoop Ice Cream Freezer Storage Container. We liked the overall design, that lets you easily scoop out ice cream (how come commercial ice cream makers haven’t thought of this shape?).

What We Liked

• Holds up to 1.5 quarts. That’s great because most ice cream makers make about a 1 quart at a time (some are more).

• Double wall design = no freezer burn.

• BPA-free polypropylene.

• Silicone lid.

What Needs Work

• Cracking. We see a minority of reports that some containers cracked when frozen, but we didn’t see that in our testing.

• Silicone lid could be more secure. It just sits on top—it would be better if it snapped in place.

• Hand wash only.

• A bit pricey.

Best Round Quart

Tovolo Tight-Fitting, Stack-Friendly, Sweet Treat Ice Cream Tub

Stackable, air-tight lid
If you prefer round containers, we’d recommend this one-quart container by Tovolo—very well made with silicone lid that fits tightly to keep air out.

Best Round Quart: Tovolo Stackable Sweet Treat Ice Cream Tub

Beloved kitchen gadget maker Tovolo’s Stackable Sweet Treat Ice Cream Tub is our pick as the best round quart size container. We tried out several round tubs and this one came out on top.

What We Liked

 Stackable.

• Silicone, tight-fitting lid.

• Good brand with solid quality reputation.

Easiest to Clean

SUMO Homemade Ice Cream Containers: Dishwasher Safe Tub. 1.5 Quart

Dishwasher safe, 14 ounce size. Holds 1.5 quarts, dishwasher-safe
We liked the no-slip bottom of this container, which holds about 60% more ice cream than others. Sturdy and BPA free.

Easiest to Clean: SUMO Homemade Ice Cream Container

We liked this container’s non-stick base and overall quality construction—super easy to clean.

What We Liked

• Stackable.

• Three colors.

• Non-stick base.

• Dishwasher safe.
