Best Healthy Snacks For Kids

Last Updated: Feb 11, 2021 @ 1:42 pm. Best Healthy Snacks For Kids. What are the best healthy snacks for kids? And what are the healthy snacks for kids that kids would actually eat? As parents, we know the struggle is real. We tested several popular healthy snack options with actual kids to see what was most liked. And kids aren’t shy! Here are the winners.

FYI: Since 1994, we’ve been reviewing products for kids and families. We don’t take money or freebies from brands we review. Our work is 100% reader supported.

Best Snack Cookie

MySuperCookies Organic Whole Grain, Healthy Snacks for Kids

Tasty cookie without the guilt. The chocolate flavor was a fave! These cookies are nut free and contain no salt. About 30% less sugar than regular cookies. Blueberry vanilla flavor was hit or miss, however.

Best Healthy Kids Snack Cookie: My SuperCookies Organic Whole Grain Healthy Snacks for Kids

Kids and cookies go together like traffic and weather. We tried out several healthy cookie snacks before deciding MySuperCookies snacks were the best.

These cookies are individually wrapped servings and come in a box with 24 packs in three flavors: blueberry vanilla, chocolate and honey.

They contain organic wheat flour, chia seeds, quinoa, refined coconut oil, honey, brown rice flour, brown rice syrup, sunflower oil, baobab, baking soda, sea salt, vitamin E (preservative), monk fruit extract, dried blueberries. They are nut free made in nut free facility as well as egg and dairy free.

One note: these snacks are nut free but contain coconut oil. Coconuts are, of course, nuts! But the oil used in these snacks is refined and approved to be called nut free.

What We Liked

• Chocolate flavor was a fave!

• Animal cracker look-a-likes without the junk that’s in animal crackers!

• No salt. Egg and dairy free! Caveat: although these cookies are dairy free, they are made in a facility that processes dairy.

• No nuts. And they are made in a nut-free facility, which is unusual.

What Needs Work

Chalky. A few dissenters said the cookies were hard; others thought they had just the right amount of crisp.

• 7 grams of sugar per serving. On the plus side, that’s about 30% less sugar than a similar serving of Oreos.

Best Snack Fruit

Brothers-ALL-Natural Fuji Apple Crisps, 0.35-Ounce Bags (Pack of 24)

Fuji apple flavor is tops! We loved these fruit crisp snacks with simple ingredients: freeze-dried fruit. No added sugars or fat. Low calorie and variety of flavors. Gluten free, dairy free, nut free.

Best Healthy Kids Snack Fruit: Brothers-ALL-NATURAL Fruit Crisps

The kids in our snack test rundown thought these snacks were the best fruit-based snack: Brother’s All Natural Fruit Crisps. And they are quite tasty!

These snacks have only 8 grams of sugar, which is naturally occurring from fruit, not added later. Only 40 calories per serving (a serving size is one bag). Here’s more:

What We Liked

7 flavors: Asian pear, banana, Fuji apple, Fuji apple & cinnamon, peach, strawberry, strawberry banana.

• The apple flavor was most popular.

• Simple ingredients. No added fat or sugar.

• Low in calories.

• No additives, preservatives or dyes.

• Gluten free, peanut/tree nut free, soy free, dairy free and non-GMO.

What Needs Work

• Could be crispier. Most kids liked the texture of these snacks, but a minority thought they were too spongy.

• Pricey. And some flavors are more expensive than others.

• Not processed in the USA. These snacks are processed overseas and that concerns some folks. So, just an FYI.

Best Snack Fruit + Veggie

Veggie-Go’s by Wildmade Strawberry, Chia + Beets (12 pack)

Serving of fruit and veg! It’s the moonshot of kids snacks: a combo of veggies and fruit in a snack kids actually like! We liked the chewy texture, but critics say they could look more appetizing.

Best Healthy Kids Snack Fruit + Veggie: Veggie-Go’s by Wildmade Strawberry, Chia + Beets

Here’s the holy grail when it comes to kid snacks: get kids to eat a healthy snack with a serving of both fruit AND vegetables. By some miracle, it appears the folks at Veggie Go’s have accomplished this, said our kid tester panel.

If you told us kids would like a snack made from strawberries, chia and beets, we would have been skeptical. But it worked! Here’s more:

What We Liked

• Low in fat. Each serving has just a half gram of fat.

• Chewy texture with added crunch from whole chia seeds.

• Very yummy. And this from some kids that are picky eaters.

• 6 different flavors.

• Low in calories, salt. 50 calories per serving. 20 mg of salt.

What Needs Work

• Pricey.

• Made in a factory that processes milk, wheat, soy and coconut.

• Could look more appealing.  Let’s be honest—these snacks don’t look all that appetizing. They taste good, however!

Best Snack Variety Pack

Nice gift box. We loved the sheer variety of healthy snacks here: crunchy, chewy and everything in between. Great way to discover new tastes.

Best Healthy Kids Snack Variety Pack: Healthy Snacks Care Package (20 ct.)

As parents, we know that even the best snacks can get boring after a while—a variety pack of healthy snacks is a nice way to spice things up.

We tried out several different boxes that contained a variety of healthy snacks before deciding that Premium Penguin was the best bet.

What We Liked

• 20 different snacks.

• Giftable. This variety pack arrives in a nice gift box.

• Variety of textures: crunchy, chewy and everything in between.

What Needs Work

• Not for kids with food allergies. Yes, some of the items in this box contain milk, peanuts, tree nuts, gluten and dairy.

• Some snacks repeat.

• Mostly healthy but a few items stray more into the traditional snack category (read: more sugar or salt).
