Comments: Everything that’s old is new again! The new Baby Trend PROtect Yumi Folding booster actually started out life as the Compass Folding Booster in the mid 2000’s. This seat had a good run as one of the better-selling boosters seats for a while, before Compass was sold to First Years. There it languished for a while until First Years exited the car seat biz in 2014. The company sold the rights to the Folding Booster and voila! It is now reborn as the Baby Trend PROtect Yumi Folding booster.

Baby Trend only changed a few minor details about the seat—the armrests are different, for example. Otherwise, it is basically the same seat. We did like the Compass version, but there was one big caveat: the Compass version weighed a ton. That kind of worked against the concept of using this for car pools, folding or not.

Parents seem generally happy with the seat. As we suspected, it is heavy, and some folks noted it’s quite large when folded.
