Recaro, the maker of racing car seats, is trying to
boost its profile in the US car seat market, going after the premium Britax
segment. Recaro?s first efforts fizzled after they selected Baby Trend to
distribute their pricey booster seat. Expensive booster seat + maker of cheap-o
strollers = no sales.

This time, Recaro
is going it alone and adding to the line. The new ?Young Start? will
be a forward-facing only seat from 18 to 80 pounds with a five point harness up
to 40 lbs. ($250), out in June. The ?Young Style? will work from 30
to 80 pounds as a high back booster for $150 in June. All in all, these prices
were quite high and we?re not sure folks will shell out Marathon bucks for
a seat that doesn?t have the same features.
