Kolcraft’s emphasis in this category is on being the low price leader and their current offerings are a case in point. The Recline N Dine is just $50. What do you get for that? Well, a rather basic high chair with one-hand tray release, vinyl pad and storage basket (but no wheels).

Kolcraft also sells a fancier high chair under their Sesame Street license (Sesame Beginnings, $65). This chair adds wheels, toys, and three-position seat recline. But the chair doesn’t fold, which is an odd omission for a $65 chair.

The Kolcraft Contours Perfect Fit High Chair ($100 to $120; pictured) is a new model with a soft foam seat that is easy to clean (no crevices for food to hide). Cool feature: a clever under-seat crumb catcher. The Perfect Fit has a three-position seat recline, seven height positions and an adjustable foot rest. Yes, there is a dishwasher-safe tray insert, but the tray itself is rather dinky compared to the competition. This chair is one of the best chairs Kolcraft has made in years, but it is in so few stores, there is little way to see it in person.

What about the quality? Let’s be honest: these would be great for grandma’s house, where occasional use wouldn’t tax them too much, but not as an everyday high chair. In the past, we heard many gripes about Kolcraft’s previous high chairs . . . seat pads that ripped too easily, straps that were hard to adjust and more. While the Contours Perfect Fit is an exception to the rule, most of Kolcraft’s chairs only merit an average rating. Rating: C+
