Bellefonte Kids is the new nursery furniture division of Woodcraft Industries, a furniture and kitchen cabinet maker based in State College, PA. After the lead paint scare and crib recalls of the late 2000’s, companies like Woodcraft saw an opportunity to market made in America furniture to parents skittish of Chinese-imported furniture.

The nursery line is comprised of two collections. Each is available in six finishes and there is a two-tone option as well. All cribs convert into full-size beds and the collections include double dressers, hutches, matching mirrors and more.

The key selling point here, besides the Made-in-America label, is solid wood construction. The styling, on other hand, is very basic and traditional. Cribs retail for $950 and a double dresser is $900 to $1000.

At those prices, Bellefonte will compete against Romina in the solid furniture niche—and Romina’s prices are about 20% higher than Bellefonte. However, Romina’s styling will probably win more fans than Bellefonte Kids’ plain Jane looks.

This line was brand new as of this writing, so no parent feedback yet. The quality of the samples we recently viewed was good. We liked the self-closing drawer glides and dust proofing on the dressers. All the pieces are made from “Pennsylvania hardwood” and the drawers feature English dovetail joints. Rating: Not Yet.
