A reader in Boston emailed this update on Beantown
baby gear sellers:

My wife and I just got
this news this morning that Boston Baby, a well

established baby furniture retailer in the
Boston area with 3 outlets, which

we happen to
have a nursery set on order with, has fired everyone, unhooked

the phone, and padlocked the doors without any
explanation. I guess this

means we’ll be
calling our credit card company about a refund very soon. I

appreciate your advice on placing deposit on
the credit card.

Since January we’ve seen
BB Kids and The Baby Place, two other well-known

baby gear retailers in this area, suddenly
close shop without warning and

file
bankruptcy. Boston Baby has been in business for 50 years and has three

outlets! Not even company employees knew this
was coming. It is one of the

most well-known
stores in this area. It is a mystery to us why baby

furniture stores around here, which there does
not seem to be enough of, are

suddenly pulling
the plug without warning. We’re not used to seeing

retailers act like this. Is that just the
nature of their business? Are baby

furntiture
retailers shady in genreal, I mean aside from selling $200 cribs

for
$800?

Thanks,
Kurt
