Is a BOB stroller worth it?

Yes.

Is a BOB stroller worth it? Yes, the BOB strollers are worth the investment, in our opinion (we have spent the last 30 years researching and writing about baby gear—read more about us). Three reasons:

1. Ease of use. The air-filled tires with all-wheel suspension give BOB strollers superior steering, in our tests. Also note the height adjustable handle bars on most models—great if your partner is a different height.

2. Off-road trail use and running. Most strollers aren’t designed for hiking or running—that is where BOB shines, however. We liked the safety touches like the reflective accents on the BOB Gear Alterrain Pro, for example.

3. Resale value. Thanks to the brand’s popularity, BOB can be resold at roughly 37% to 43% of their retail price after three years, based on our analysis. This assumes normal wear and tear.

Do BOB strollers ever go on sale?

Yes.

Yes, BOB strollers go on sale 2-3 times a year, with discounts ranging from 15% to 35%. Here are the most popular sale times:

1. Amazon Prime Day. During 2022’s Prime Day, the BOB Revolution Flex was marked down by 10%.

2. Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Discounts of 20% or more are typical during these sales.

3. Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Held during mid July, this sale usually features one or two BOB stroller models, based on our research from the past three years.

What does the BOB name stand for?

Beast of Burden.

BOB was founded by two New Zealanders who envisioned a stroller tough enough for outdoor adventures—hence, the Beast of Burden moniker.

What strollers are comparable to BOB?

Thule is the most comparable brand to BOB Gear. For example, the Thule Urban Glide 2 is a comparable stroller to the BOB Revolution Flex.

Are BOB strollers non-toxic?

Unclear.

BOB’s web site is silent on this issue. However, a spokesperson for Britax, which owns the BOB Gear brand, told a website that covers this issue that they do not use flame retardants:

“Britax requires its Britax & BOB Gear suppliers to eliminate certain chemical flame retardants containing bromine, chlorine or other halogens, in components used in car seats and all other products. Strollers do not have flammability standards. Therefore, Britax and BOB strollers are not treated with any chemical flame retardants.”

The same site notes that BOB did not answer questions about other chemicals that might be used in their production: “They declined to provide further information on the presence of polyurethane foam, PVC, phthalates, BPA, DWR, and so forth.”

Are BOB strollers waterproof?

Yes and no.

Most BOB stroller canopies are water resistant, not waterproof. However, one model, the BOB Gear Alterrain Pro does have a waterproof canopy. Also: BOB sells a weather shield that provides additional rain protection as an optional accessory.

Can you take a BOB stroller in the snow?

Yes.

BOB strollers’ all-terrain tires and high ground clearance enable you to push the stroller in several inches of snow.

Are BOB strollers allowed at Disney?

Yes and no.

Yes to BOB strollers. No, to the new BOB stroller wagon (called the BOB Gear Renegade Stroller Wagon).

Disney says yes in an FAQ on their web site:

“Officially the rules on strollers are that they not be any larger than 36″ x 52″ (92 x 132 cm). Yes, BOB strollers are allowed. In fact this is actually one of the most popular stroller options you’ll see. Rest assured that it will fit comfortably through the majority of doorways and spaces while you’re shopping and having fun all around Walt Disney World Resort.”

On the other hand, stroller wagons are prohibited at Disney parks, so the BOB Gear Renegade Stroller Wagon is a no go.

What is the BOB stroller controversy?

In 2018, the Consumer Products Safety Commission sued Britax over defective BOB strollers made from 1997 to 2015. We wrote a detailed post on this here. The suit was settled later in 2018—details are here.
