Comments: The Original Hip Hammock was designed to make the usual baby-on-the-hip carry easier on moms’ backs. Attach the waist belt, slide your baby into the seat, then wrap the shoulder strap around your back and snap to the front of the carrier. In a nutshell, it is similar to a messenger bag. The Hip Hammock only works with children who are at least 15 pounds, so it’s not for newborns. FYI: avoid the Playtex version of the Hip Hammock—readers didn’t like it much and it was involved in a recall, both in 2005 and again in 2013.
