Type: Convertible seat.
Limits: 5 to 40 lbs. rear facing,
22 to 50 lbs. forward facing.
NHTSA ease of use rating:
Forward facing: Three stars.
Rear facing: Two stars.
Pros: Six harness slots; three crotch positions.
Cons: You can find this seat at Walmart for $50 less, although the fabric and padding is more basic.
Comments: The Cosco Comfy Convertible is an upgraded version of another Cosco seat, the Apt 50—it is basically the same seat with fancier fabric, more padding and an infant insert/body pillow.
Considering that you can find the Apt 50 for as little was $50 at Walmart, the Cosco Comfy convertible seat isn’t much of a value. If you are having a preemie or small baby, it might be a worthwhile upgrade for the infant insert.
Consumer Reports didn’t crash this seat in their latest convertible car seat survey, so we have no independent verification of safety—but given the performance of a smiliar Cosco seat (the Scenera), we’d assume this would merit a “basic” rating as well.
Reader feedback on this seat has been positive, especially from our grandparent readers who say the light weight of the Comfy Convertible makes it easy to transport/switch vehicles. Rating: B
