What are the best diamond painting kits for kids? And what is diamond painting anyway? In a nutshell, diamond painting is a paint-by-numbers like mosaic . . . but instead of paint, sparkly diamonds are attached to a canvas with resin. We sampled a dozen different kid-friendly diamond painting kits and surveyed our readers on their favorites. Here are the winners!

FYI: Since 1994, we've been rating and reviewing products for kids and families. We don't take money or freebies from the brands we review! Our work is 100% reader-supported . . . so we appreciate you reading this article!

Best For Beginners: COLEEY Diamond Painting Stickers Kits for Kids DC Heroes

A quick word on safety before we get into our recommendations of diamond painting kits for kids: most of these kits are recommended for kids aged 3 and up (small parts are a choking hazard for younger kiddos). The more complex kits are ages 10 and up. We would recommend this craft project be supervised by an adult.

If you want to try out an easy kit for beginners, our recommendation would be the super cute COLEEY Diamond Painting Stickers Kit. Yes, these are stickers—which kids can then use to decorate their room, iPad case, etc. Fun and not too challenging.

What We Liked

• Kit includes all the supplies you need to create the stickers.

• Super cute designs.

• Easy for kids and adults who want to try it out.

• Affordable.

What Needs Work

• Not enough diamonds? We didn’t have a problem with this in the kit we tested, but we see reports from other parents that they ran out of diamonds before finishing the stickers. You might want to check the kit when it arrives to make sure it has all the required parts!

Best Advanced Kit: NEILDEN DIY 5D Diamond Painting Kits for Adults Kids Unicorn

If your child has done the beginner diamond painting kits and now is hooked—is he or she ready for a challenge? We suggest this kit for advanced diamond painters. The bright colors are a kid favorite.

What We Liked

• Larger canvas is an impressive size—takes some effort, but not too much time!

• Kit includes 30% more diamonds. You don’t have to worry about running out.

• Unicorns!

• Extra sparkly diamonds.

What’s Needs Work

• Not enough resin. We see reports from other parents that this kit’s included resin wasn’t enough to finish the project. We didn’t have that issue with the kit we tested—but if you run out of resin, you’ll have to buy some more . . . which is no fun.

Best Intermediate Kit: LAN WHALE Easy 5D Diamond Painting Kit for Kids

Who doesn’t like pandas? This is a great kit for kids who’ve done a beginner kit and want a bit more of a challenge. We rate this kit as intermediate in difficulty—it includes larger size diamonds that are easier for small hands to place. It doesn’t require precise placement. But best of all, it comes in a frame so the finished picture can be hung up for all to see!

What We Liked

• Affordable.

• Finished picture is just the right size for an intermediate diamond painter kid to do!

• Larger size diamonds are easy for kids to place.
