Is Doona worth it?
Yes.
Is a Doona worth it? Yes, the Doona car seat and stroller is worth the investment, in our opinion (we have spent the last 30 years researching and writing about baby gear—read more about us). Three reasons:
1. Innovative design and function. By combining an infant car seat and stroller, the Doona replaces the standard stroller most parents buy for baby’s first year. Note how the one-button release pops the stroller wheels out—a major plus for folks who travel or live in an urban environment.
2. Flexibility. You can install the Doona with or without its base—and it is FAA-approved to use on an airline.
3. Resale value. Thanks to the brand’s popularity, Doonas can be resold at roughly 39% to 52% of their retail price after three years, based on our analysis. This assumes normal wear and tear.
There have been no safety recalls on this brand. Read more about Doona’s history on our sister site, StrollerWiki.

Is Doona FAA-approved?
Yes.
Yes, Doona is FAA-approved. However, you can only use the car seat without the base on airplanes. (The base with the wheels can be stored in an overhead bin).
Is the Doona car seat safe?
Yes.
Yes, the Doona meets the minimum safety standards as set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Consumer Reports called the Doona “safe and secure” in a recent article. However, the Baby Gear Lab’s independent crash test showed the Doona performed at the bottom of its peer group (although still passing the federal requirements).
Does Doona ever go on sale?
Rarely.
Yes, the Doon car seat and stroller does go on sale—but it is rare. We’ve seen small discounts (about 5% to 10%) during events like Black Friday or Prime Day on Amazon.
Is Doona safe for a newborn? Is it only for infants?
Yes.
The Doona car seat and stroller is safe for newborns, as it includes a newborn insert. The brand notes the insert “has been designed to be used from birth onwards and can be removed from around 11 lbs. onwards to ensure comfortable growth.”
As an infant car seat, the Doona is designed for babies up to 35 lbs.—this is approximately birth to 12-15 months, although a child may outgrow it by height before the weight limit is met.
Is the Doona flame-retardant free?
Yes.
Yes, Simple Parenting, the maker of Doona says it does NOT use flame retardants:
“All materials used by Simple Parenting are carefully tested and approved under the most strict American and European standards and the REACH regulation, including SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern). Not only are the materials used free of any hazardous chemicals, they are also tested for their durability and quality to assure the safe and continuous use of the products.”
Is Doona banned in Canada?
Yes and no.
The Doona is not approved for use in Canada. It is illegal to take a car seat into Canada and use it without Canadian certification.
However, it is not unusual for a car seat maker to not market their seats in Canada. Canada has separate safety standards from the US and it may not make economic sense for a small brand like Doona to go through the expense of certification to market the product in Canada.
Does Doona need a base?
No.
Doona can be used with or without its base in a vehicle.
Does Doona fit in an overhead bin?
Yes and no.
Doona claims its car seat and stroller can fit in most aircraft overhead bins and tweeted out a picture to illustrate:
However, your mileage may vary—some aircraft bins may be too small to hold a Doona.
Why is the Doona so expensive?
Doona is marketed as a luxury product with unique functionality. As such, it commands a higher price than non-stroller infant car seats.
