Ontario-based Caramia’s pitch is, in a nutshell, the Restoration Hardware look at a better price.
The company imports its cribs from Croatia and dressers from Vietnam. The styling is conservative and prices are moderate (most cribs are $400 to $600). Most Caramia cribs have a shaker style influence (the Avatar, pictured).
Caramia uses beech, poplar and New Zealand pine in its collection, although some dressers are MDF.
Delivery is six to eight weeks on average, which is rather zippy in this industry. How about the quality? We consider Caramia to be in the middle of the pack—not the best, but not the worst. The dressers are probably the least-impressive part of this line: while a few are made of solid beech, others feature more MDF than you’d expect at this price.
As of this writing, Caramia is only sold in a handful of US dealers and web sites (WayFair.com is one source). This brand might be more accessible if you are shopping in Canada. FYI: Caramia is sold under the name “Building Blocks” in big box stores. Rating: B-
