Summer Infant Bentwood high chairWeb site: summerinfant.com

Better known for their baby monitors, Summer has two high chairs: the Classic Comfort Wood high chair and the Bentwood high chair.

Like the OXO Tot Sprout, the Bentwood ($170; pictured at right)  is a hybrid with wooden legs and a plastic seat/tray.

The Bentwood’s key differences from similar chairs include being height adjustable with a three position recline. It also folds. An infant insert is included with the Bentwood. One reader told us the snack tray on the Bentwood is fixed, meaning you have to wrestle a toddler over it each time you use the chair. The chair cushion is also quite thin.

Summer Infant Pop 'n Sit high chair

The Pop ‘n Sit folds and unfolds for easy travel.

Staying to true to the company’s name, Summer has the perfect travel/outdoor high chair: the Pop N Sit ($40). This lightweight chair has a small plastic tray and folds up like a camping chair. It comes with a travel bag. Along the same lines is a travel booster, the Pop N Go ($26).

Bottom line: Summer is only a bit player in the high chair market and it shows. While models like the Bentwood show promise, Summer needs to establish more of a track record here for quality and durability before we can recommend them. Rating: D+
