Toronto-based Monte’s gliders epitomize the modern nursery look—simple lines, tailored fabrics, etc. Monte has four basic styles, but you can customize each chair to your heart’s content.
All this doesn’t come cheap: most chairs run $1000-$1200; swap the fabric for leather and you can add another $200.
Example: the Grazia rocker in a grey fabric is $1200 (pictured). A lumbar pillow (shown with many rockers) is $85 extra. New in the past year, Monte has added limited edition chairs made of Italian wool and walnut bases ($1300).
So is it worth it? Well, the samples we recently inspected were impressive: solid walnut bases, high quality fabrics, quality foam for the seats, etc. Yes, all that is nice, but other glider makers (Dutailier, for example) do a similar look and quality for about 25% less. Hence, we get the feeling here you are paying a premium for . . . exactly what, we’re not sure.
Feedback from parents has been positive, with fans citing the high-quality fabrics and tailoring.
Delivery is about 5-7 weeks. While we do see a couple of Monte gliders on Amazon, the brand is mostly sold specialty stores and chains like Giggle and Land of Nod. FYI: Monte gliders are made in Canada.
Bottom line: beautiful chairs, but at premium prices. Rating: B
