Published: May 23, 2019 @ 3:36 pm. Britax debuts new low-price car seats: Allegiance ($200), Emblem ($240) Britax has kicked off the new year with a surprise—two new car seats from a lower price line called Essentials starting at $200.

These are scaled down car seats that omit some features (like enhanced side impact protection) seen on their $300 seats.

Our quick take: Britax is feeling the heat from competitors like Graco, whose all-in-one seats like the 4Ever and Milestone were deeply discounted under $200 during the holiday season. At the low end of the price spectrum for convertible seats, Britax’s only entry that is under $200—the Roundabout—is an aging seat that doesn’t stack up well against the Graco models, value-wise. We expect these new seats will replace the Roundabout, which is now out of stock on Amazon.

The Britax Allegiance ($200) works up to 65 lbs. and  features a 10-position harness and foam-lined shell for basic side impact protection. Walmart has it online for $191. Target has it in stock now for $200. Amazon now has it in stock for $199.

The Britax Emblem is $240 and adds extra foam for additional side impact protection. Otherwise, it is similar to the Allegiance. Walmart has this seat listed for $224, but it is out of stock as of this writing. Amazon has it in stock now for $240..
